Description:
ActiVin® is a patented form of grape seed extract which is a powerful
antioxidant. Clinical trials have shown that it has more potent
free-radical scavenging activity than vitamin C, vitamin E and beta-carotene.
It may be more potent and effective than pine bark at a substantially
lower cost.
The Scientific Advisory Board at NSI® (composed of medical doctors)
has developed a revolutionary approach to bio-available technology:
UltrAbsorb Technology®. It provides speedy assimilation and allows
easy, gentle absorbtion of nutrients that promote your health.
About Grapeseed:
Search:Resveratrol, a polyphenolic compound found in grapes and
wine, is an agonist for the estrogen receptor.
Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A, 94(25):14138-43 1997 Dec 9
The phytochemical resveratrol, which is found in grapes and wine,
has been reported to have a variety of anti-inflammatory, anti-platelet,
and anti-carcinogenic effects. Based on its structural similarity
to diethylstilbestrol, a synthetic estrogen, we examined whether
resveratrol might be a phytoestrogen. At concentrations (approximately
3-10 microM) comparable to those required for its other biological
effects, resveratrol inhibited the binding of labeled estradiol
to the estrogen receptor and it activated transcription of estrogen-responsive
reporter genes transfected into human breast cancer cells. This
transcriptional activation was estrogen receptor-dependent, required
an estrogen response element in the reporter gene, and was inhibited
by specific estrogen antagonists. In some cell types (e.g., MCF-7
cells), resveratrol functioned as a superagonist (i.e., produced
a greater maximal transcriptional response than estradiol) whereas
in others it produced activation equal to or less than that of estradiol.
Resveratrol also increased the expression of native estrogen-regulated
genes, and it stimulated the proliferation of estrogen-dependent
T47D breast cancer cells. We conclude that resveratrol is a phytoestrogen
and that it exhibits variable degrees of estrogen receptor agonism
in different test systems. The estrogenic actions of resveratrol
broaden the spectrum of its biological actions and may be relevant
to the reported cardiovascular benefits of drinking wine.
Cancer chemopreventive activity of resveratrol, a natural product
derived from grapes.
Science, 1997 Jan, 275:5297, 218-20
Resveratrol, a phytoalexin found in grapes and other food products,
was purified and shown to have cancer chemopreventive activity in
assays representing three major stages of carcinogenesis. Resveratrol
was found to act as an antioxidant and antimutagen and to induce
phase II drug-metabolizing enzymes (anti-initiation activity); it
mediated anti-inflammatory effects and inhibited cyclooxygenase
and hydroperoxidase functions (antipromotion activity); and it induced
human promyelocytic leukemia cell differentiation (antiprogression
activity). In addition, it inhibited the development of preneoplastic
lesions in carcinogen-treated mouse mammary glands in culture and
inhibited tumorigenesis in a mouse skin cancer model. These data
suggest that resveratrol, a common constituent of the human diet,
merits investigation as a potential cancer chemopreventive agent
in humans.
Red wine is powerful:
Article
Red wine has many important elements. It contains powerful antioxidants
called bioflavanoids. One of the best studied is quercetin. There
are numerous studies published on quercetin indicating significantly
reduced risk of heart disease and stroke with increased quercetin
consumption; 100 200 mg per day appears to be optimal. Red wine
also contains substances known as polyphenols which inhibit oxidation
of LDL cholesterol, reduce platelet stickiness (which can lead to
clotting within arteries), etc. One extremely powerful polyphenol
in red wine is known as resveratrol. Green tea also contains similar
protective antioxidants.
I certainly enjoy having a glass of red wine from time to time.
It is probably unreasonable, however, for most people to be drinking
red wine on a daily basis. As a healthy alternative, I would strongly
recommend standardized red wine extract, grape seed extract (Activin
is the best standardized form with numerous studies behind it) and
standardized green tea extract. In fact some studies indicate grape
seed extract is a far more powerful antioxidant when compared to
Vitamin C, E or Beta Carotene. Although we sell over 6,000 products
on Vitacost, I keep coming back to the NSI line of products. This
is our top flagship brand and there is a lot of time and research
put into the formulation of these products by board certified medical
doctors reviewing thousands of studies every year. Most of the NSI
Synergy
line and multinutrient products contain standardized red wine and
standardized green tea extracts along with standardized grapeseed
extract in the form of Activin. However, for those looking for this
exact combination to add to their supplement regimen, NSI offers
a product containing all three of these excellent nutrients. This
product is a powerful antioxidant trio that I would highly recommend
to everyone
