In all media I go for bright, bold, even gaudy colours, and enjoy experimenting with weird combinations and violent clashes.

My preferred medium at present is gouache ~ I love the opaque density of it, but it's surprising how something as dense and opaque can produce such stunning 3D effects; but I also regularly work in soft pastels (great when I feel a picture requires some subtlety, or a certain 'romantic' feel to it); graphite (coloured or plain: good for producing something quick such as a portrait); and, for large-scale canvases, acrylics.

The Artists
Matthew Stradling

Collections: Men and Pearls

Although much of Matthew’s work depicts fantasies of wealth and splendour, it is not the luxury of a materialistic world that is being celebrated, rather the wealth of the imagination, where the mind is free to gather images from different eras, continents and mythologies, creating visions of beauty that seem to be haunted by their own perfection. In this way, Matthew’s paintings convey a certain melancholic yearning for lost eras and a child-like sense of wonder, underlaid with a knowing sense of humour.

TJ Rees
Collections: Drawings & Portraits

For him, the pencil drawing is a form of pure art, stripped of extraneous detail to focus attention on the "truth" within the figure. Although TJ has worked in a range of materials, from ceramics through textiles, he feels drawing is the medium through which he is best able to express his fascination with the male form. His present focus is on the idealized male, caught in moments of tension or reflection, onto which the audience are invited to layer their own interpretations and meanings.

Fernando Garcia-Vazquez
Collections: Silverpoint Drawings & Paintings

The definition of art that we have today is a sign of our time. It is wide and open and not defined any more. That is the way it is and I accept it. However to put a little bit of sense in our minds we as artists have to come to a private description of what we do and what we are as individuals in the society that we live in.

For me art is a tool. It is The tool that I like to use to express my ideas and views.

Growing up under a dictatorship in Franco's Spain, I know all too well the constrains that can stifle a person who just doesn't fit in her/his place. My weapon to fight the circumstances is to show how hypocritical a so-called honest society can be. My tool, again, is art.

Eric
Collections: Nude Men

All of these paintings are about life-size in black and white oil paint on black or white acid free archival canvas. I use only the best materials available so this work will last for generations. They are rolled for ease of shipping, include a Certificate of Authenticity and can easily be stretched or mounted by your framer. My backgrounds are generally stark white or jet black without variation. Any change in shade you see here is due to lighting unless it is an obvious texture.

Eric's work can be found in both public and private collections, included in such places as the Guggenheim Museum, New York's Museum Of Modern Art, Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art, Jue de Paume of Paris and many more.

Celso Junior
Collections: Bears; Boots; Death; General; Cops

"The artist loves and kills the actual love of killing, sacrificing himself for himself every day. Each picture and every image represents a part of him cut out and hung up, at the mercy of the avid butcher who observes. The artist has to feel these intense parts of himself passionately, relating to them as if it were the last day of his life". In the work of Celso Junior this imagery is ever present, leading us to the other side of things where only shadows exist, the bad ghost, loss of self in orgasm, and its parallels with death last rites to be compared only with the idea of complete perfection.

Born in Guararapes Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1961, Celso Junior received an academic degree in painting from Escola de MTsica e Belas Artes do Paran· in Curitiba, Brazil in 1985. Celso Junior created and organized the Lisbon Gay And Lesbian Film Festival, now in its sixth year.

From an early age, Samuel Pope wanted to be an artist. In school, he spent all his time in the art rooms. One teacher called him “Arty Sam.” The other kids called him “Instant ‘A’.” For college he attended the Thomas Jefferson College at Grand Valley State University where he studied painting with Basil King, a second generation abstract expressionist; and intaglio printmaking with Takeshi Takahara for whom he worked as his assistant.

Michael Sean
Collections: Male Nudes

Michael Sean specializes in figurative male drawings which he sometimes creates for "pure aesthetics" and sometimes as he says, "for a great pin-up look". In either case it is evident that Michael takes great care and time in planning and executing each drawing. He creates unsual angles and perspective, which brings a certain realistic tension into the work.

Manolo Yanes
Collections: Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis is an attempt at interpretation of these myths with a current eye through a series of drawings. Transformation, change, metamorphosis are concepts on the agenda in a world which becomes more than ever dubious and changing. In this personal interpretation of the metamorphoses ovidiennes there are two opposite and complementary routes.

Ewie
Collections: Quiet Moments

I like my pictures to show men 'enjoying quiet moments', quite often in the solitary contemplation and/or enjoyment of their own beauty: the overall effect should be of calm even if the colouring is anything but.
