Gastronomy

A delicious trip

BREAKFAST: Breakfast is usually continental with fresh breads, pasties, jams, fruit, cereals, yoghurts, fruit juices, regular and decaffeinated coffee and tea.

LUNCH: Luncheons are buffets of colourful salads, pates and cold meats that may be accompanied by hot soup or entrée, delectable desserts and a different selection of regional cheeses and wines daily

DINNER: Always a gastronomic adventure by our talented chef. A taste of regional cuisine by candlelight. Harmonizing food and good wines from the best vineyards. Followed by a selection of regional cheeses. Coffee and liqueurs served in the saloon. Non-alcoholic beverages and regular or decaffeinated tea and coffee, whole or low fat milk, are offered with all meals.

Captain's Dinner: Captain’s dinner on the last night. Dress slightly formal.

Special Food Requirements: Special food requirements (such as vegetarian or allergies) are catered for if requested in advance. Please give as much advance notice as possible – preferably 8 weeks prior to the cruise departure at least.

Drinks which are included: There is an open bar on board with alcoholic & non-alcoholic drinks available 24 hours a day. Champagne and Special vintage wines are not included although you may purchase bottles at cost of Champagne and Premier and Grand Cru wines on board if you let us know in advance how many of each you would require

CYCLING
Passengers are welcome to walk or cycle using the on board bicycles as often as they like. Most people choose to disembark the barge at a lock and then visit local villages and then return to the canal and meet the barge a little further along. The barge travels very slowly and therefore “catch up” will not be a problem. .

HOT AIR BALLOON RIDES
We are afraid that the region Anjodi cruises in is not suitable for hot air ballooning mainly because there are so many vineyards, which means a hot air balloon would have trouble landing.

EXCURSIONS FOR CHARTER GROUPS
If you are chartering, the itinerary can be adapted to suit your group’s particular needs. If the excursion is within a reasonable distance of the barge we will do everything we can to arrange it. Please advise our office in advance and the Captain can be informed.

FOR THOSE NOT WISHING TO ATTEND EXCURSIONS
You are welcome to stay behind on the barge if you would like. You can use the bikes, go for a walk or just sit on the shaded sundeck or Jacuzzi

Anjodi • 6 Nights • Canal du Midi

The 8 Passenger Anjodi is of classic Dutch Design, specifically rebuilt to navigate the 300 year old Canal du Midi. She has been completely refurbished in the tasteful tradition of African hardwoods, hand-crafted panelling and shining brass, creating a comfortable and charming anbience.

The well planned accomodation offers a choice of four air-conditioned twin staterooms with full en-suite facilities. The sun deck is spacious and has a heated sunken jacuzzi.

Anjodi's highly professional crew of four is comprised of Master Chef, Tour Guide and Stewardess and led by a knowledgable and experienced Captain who will ensure your cruise is memorable and more! Incidentally, the Canal du Midi has been listed by UNESCO as a world heritage site.

Day 1 Sunday	Marseillan You will be met at The Metropole Hotel in Montpellier at 4pm. You will be escorted by minibus to Anjodi moored in the fishing village of Marseillan. Champagne welcome followed by time to relax or take a stroll around this lovely fishing village and along the towpath. Dinner aboard.
Day 2 Monday	Marseillan to Agde A morning visit and tour of the unique “Vermoutherie” of Noilly Prat, with a tasting. Optional pre-lunch dip in the Mediterranean! Cruise this afternoon across the saltwater lake of Thau, past the oyster beds and through the famous round lock before mooring in the old Greco/Phoenician fishing port of Agde. A chance late afternoon to explore the winding, mediaeval streets before dinner on board.
Day 3 Tuesday	Agde to Beziers This morning we cross the aqueduct over the River Orb and then ascend the 7-lock flight of Foserannes and join the 300 year old Canal du Midi in Beziers. After lunch we visit Beziers’ 13th Century fortified cathedral of Saint Nazaire, with a commanding view across the Pyrenees Mountains. Explore l’Oppidum D’Enserune, a pre-Roman hill-top settlement of Greek and Iberian excavations dating from 600 BC. Return to the barge and walk ashore to Domaine de Guery for a pre-dinner wine tasting of the full-bodied Corbieres at this 500 year old vineyard. Dinner on board
Day 4 Wednesday	Beziers to Capestang Morning cruise from Beziers via the World’s oldest canal tunnel at Malpas, to Capestang. An afternoon visit to Narbonne, a Roman Mediterranean capital where the Visigoth monarchs once lived. Enjoy a visit to the Archbishop’s Palace and Horreum. Explore the indoor market at the hub of this bustling canal side town, where you will have time to shop or simply absorb the relaxed atmosphere. Our mooring in Capestang this evening, is near the old stone bridge, a perfect setting for evening cocktails and dinner on board.
Day 5 Thursday	Capestang to Le Somail Morning cruise along arguably the most picturesque stretch of canal scenery in France to Argeliers and then along the historic Midi Canal to the delightful village of Le Somail. Late morning we depart for Minerve where we enjoy lunch in a local auberge. After lunch we explore Minerve, the ancient capital of the Minervois, which boast a 12th Century Cathar fort surrounded by deep limestone gorges. Besieged by Simon de Montfort in 1215, its hill-top location affords spectacular views. A fascinating recreation in miniature of the bloodthirsty Cathar rebellion and small museum complete the intriguing picture. Dinner on board.
Day 6 Friday	Le Somail to Homps Morning cruise along the tree-lined Midi Canal to the port of Homps. Fascinating afternoon tour of Carcassonne. Dating back to the Gallo-Roman era, this is the most complete mediaeval fortified city in existence today. With its 52 watchtowers, portcullis and extraordinary repertoire of defenses, it resisted the many armies that tried to storm this Camelot setting. Captain's Farewell Dinner aboard.
Day 7 Saturday	Homps to Beziers After Breakfast, depart from Homps by minibus and return to Montpellier by about 11am
