Bois de Vincennes
The
Bois de Vincennes is directly east of Paris and complements
the Bois de Boulogne to the west; both built by Napoleon III and
his director of works, Baron Haussmann. It is a lovely park with
its imposing mediaeval castle, Chateau de Vincennes. It contains
Parisí main zoo, famous floral gardens, and a large lake with genuine
Buddhist Temple at its edge. Concerts and exhibitions are held during
the year. In April or May the biggest Fun Fair in France, Foire
du Trone, is held here.
Museum of African and Oceanic Arts
This
museum is near the Bois de Vincennes,
Zoo entrance, was built for the Colonial Fair of 1913. It is worth
a visit just to see the concrete building, which is a blend of Art
deco and neo-Greek architecture. Inside, an extraordinary mural
(1,300 square meters), honors the French colonial experience In
2004, the museum will move to the new museum being built near the
Eiffel tower. There is also Parisí Tropical Aquarium in the building.
