History of Bateaux Mouches

Jean Bruel

In 1949, avant-garde Jean Bruel invented the concept of Bateaux-Mouches. Monsieur Bruel's inspiration arose from his idea - To offer visitors a tour of Paris from the city's most beautiful Boulevard - The Seine River.

The history of the name "Bateaux-Mouches"

At the beginning of the 18th Century, the "Mouches" were small light-weight boats that were designed for transporting merchandise throughout the tributaries of France. These boats were named "Mouches" because they were built at the "Felizate" yards in the Mouche district of Lyon. The "Mouche boats" evolved from transporting merchandise to
transporting people. Bateaux-Mouches continued serving the public for two hundred years.
After World War II, Jean Bruel wanted to create a rare ambience
for his fellow Parisians. He thought how wonderful it must be to visit
Paris on one of these "Fly-Boats" - while at once enjoying Classical

He purchased one of the last remaining "Mouches" used for the
World Fair of 1900, and transformed it into a restaurant. As a result, he invented the touring/dining concept "La Compagnie des Bateaux-Mouches®"

Tables are carefully arranged next to the windows - near to riverside.
In conclusive comfort, all guests recognize historical Paris sites.
Before each dinner cruise, an aperitif is served to guests in our lounge.

For Your Cherished Moments We propose 3 dinner menus. Romantic candle lights accentuate elegant table settings. Violin and piano musicians captivate you throughout your cruise. For daytime cruises, we suggest 2 luncheon menus.

We blend charm with gastronomy as accordion musicians play legendary French songs. All of menus include a Welcome Aperitif and selections of French wine.

For Your Comfort and Convenience

To assist you, our spacious parking lot is free of charge. Free shuttles are available upon your request. Our Bateaux-Mouches train and a double deck bus are also available for you - free of charge. As a finale, a Vintage Amphibian Vehicle is also available.
